Art Club (Open Studio)

Open Studio is a time for Niles West High School students enrolled in Visual Arts courses to gain some additional studio time, one-on-one teacher instruction and/or opportunities to work alongside their peers. Open Studio also is a great way for aspiring art students to further develop their portfolio, photograph finished artworks and ready their artwork for exhibition. Open Studio meets every Wednesday after school from 3:30-4:30pm in the Art room 1780.

Clay Club (change from Graphic Arts Club)

Open to students who are currently enrolled in or have previously completed Ceramics 1 or 2 at Niles West High School. It is open studio time for students to work on projects of their choice. You will have access to clay, glaze, pottery wheels, and all other tools and equipment used in class. ​

Color Guard/Winter Guard

The Niles West Color Guard is an interpretive dance group, which combines visual effect with marching. The guard performs with the Marching Band in autumn, and indoors for a winter show. In Marching Band, the guard’s movement and effects add to the theme and visual appeal of the band as a whole.

After the outdoor marching season, the guard joins Indoor Drumline for a smaller, indoor show. Together, the guard and drumline are a performing art of rhythm and motion. Winter Guard brings music to life through advanced spinning technique and emotion that is not practicable in a hurry across a football field.

Creative Cooking Club

The Creative Cooking Club offers students interested in cooking, but who do not have a cooking class in their schedule, a chance to cook. Students decide what kind of food they want to prepare. Some foods that have been prepared are fajitas, cookies, brownies, cakes, pizza, and calzones. Come join us and have fun learning to cook!

Expressions (Creative Writing Club)

Images is a creative writing club that produces Niles West’s literary magazine. Students who are interested in art and writing can submit their work year-round for possible publication. Jazz Band

The Niles West Jazz Band consists of the most elite members from the academic bands. Its fine players join so they can step up to play challenging jazz. In Jazz Band, students have the opportunity to reach their true music potential. Jazz Band starts at the conclusion of marching season, meeting every Monday and Thursday through May. They appear in ten events and competitions per season! Mr. Adamsons directs the band as professionals, and keeps them motivated with (quite humorous) insights of experience.

Marching Band

Marching Band is the biggest ensemble at Niles West. Marching Band connects with the community through performances at football games and the Lincolnwood Memorial Day Parade. In fall, they perform a field show at halftime and play the school song for touchdowns, and contribute spirit with frequent song segments played in the stands. They travel to band competitions every year, and have appeared in nationally televised events. The rush one gets in Marching Band is unlike most-any other. Most importantly, Marching Band is a place to form long-lasting friendships.

Orchesis

What is Orchesis? Orchesis is a dance company organized and run by students and supervised by the directors. It gives students interested in dance an opportunity to learn and choreograph dances, hold auditions, lead rehearsals, select lighting and costumes, and perform in front of a live audience in the Robert L. Johnson Auditorium. Auditions are in September.

Orchesis is a great learning experience. Dedication is very important. Dancers chosen for this group must devote much of their time to rehearsals. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday & Friday, and on select Saturdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Dancers are also responsible for purchasing all dance attire needed for performances and rehearsals. Fundraisers will be scheduled in order to help pay for dance attire.

Orchestra Board

The Niles West Orchestra Board is made up of orchestra members who help promote Orchestra activities and participate in several community service projects. The Orchestra Board is responsible for maintaining the orchestra web site, publishing the orchestra newsletter, promoting our concerts, students and activities and helping to run the orchestra program. The orchestra board also has several community service projects throughout the year, which include running the Niles West/University of Illinois Junior High Orchestra Consortium, collecting food for the Niles Township food pantry and collecting money for various charities

Poetry Slam

8 select students comprise the main body of the team; however, there are anywhere of up to ten people who come to practice.  Those eight students compose and perform original works of poetry.  The clubs meets weekly for the purpose of drafting, revising, and critically listening to the work done by members.  Also, team members meet to study the craft of poetics and to keep informed of new trends and performers in the spoken word community.  Two club-sponsored readings take place in the fall and the spring.  Additionally, the poetry slam team competes in the annual, city-wide poetry competition, Louder than a Bomb.  This event, sponsored by Young Chicago Authors, hosts a month-long spoken word festival.  It takes a minimum of 5 months of work to prepare a 3 min poem to perform for the stage.

Pop ‘n Rock Club

POP ‘n ROCK our Pep Band, is an extra curricular activity that begins in November and runs through May.  From November through February Pop ‘n Rock performs at Pep Assemblies and basketball games. After Basketball season Pop ‘n Rock morphs into our second Jazz Band and culminates the year performing at our gala end of the year Pasta ‘n Pops dinner concert. All wind, percussion and guitar players are welcome to join this group, which also acts as a training band for the Jazz Band.

Rock ‘n Roll Club

Rock & Roll Club allows musicians of all musical backgrounds to come together and share their individual musical talents with others and to be openly accepted by their fellow musicians. All musicians have a place to go where they can express themselves musically, see how other musicians play, and better understand the beauty of music in full.  Beginners are encouraged to join!

Thespian Troupe #1714 of the International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society is an honor society for actors and theater technicians who work with costuming, sets, and/or lighting. Members participate in an annual conference each January with 4,000 delegates from across Illinois.
