ANIMAL CLUB

Do you have a pet or wish you did? Do you enjoy hanging out with animals and would love to spend more time with them? Then come join Animal Love Club! We will be spending time with animals by volunteering at animal shelters, help fund-raise and gather donated supplies for local shelters, and work with shelters/charities for adoption events.  Earn your community service hours in a fun and soft pawed way! Do you have an interest in a career that works with animals? We can explore those possibilities. If you have other ideas on how we can have fun with animals bring them with you to a meeting, all are welcome!

Art club is open studio time for students who are currently enrolled in an art class.  During club time, students can work on projects from their art classes or they can choose to use the time to work on personal projects in the medium of their choice.   Art Club is a relaxed atmosphere where students might work together, critique their work, play music, and make art.

COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

DREAM

DREAM stands for Developing Resourceful ways to Encourage Alliances and Mentorship amongst women of color.  DREAM is a student group bringing together young women who self-identify as African, Black or Caribbean from Niles North High School. It is the mission of DREAM to enlighten, inspire and support young women of color in every aspect of their lives.  We hold bi-weekly lunch-time meetings and one after school meeting per month.  We discuss a range of topics from academic to personal. DREAM helps our young ladies of color develop self-esteem, healthy relationships, effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, and mentorship skills. We educate our young women of color on the origins of race, societal perceptions of black women, microaggressions, and cultural appropriation.  We also discuss goal setting, study skills and college preparation amongst other life skills.

HOSA (Future Health Professionals)

HOSA is a national student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. MODEL U.N.

The Model UN is sponsored by national colleges and universities whose very own Model UN students provide mock environments of the world’s United Nations. At their provided conventions, Niles North High School students have the opportunity to learn parliamentary style debating skills when acting as UN delegates from nations all over the world. In our real high school world, as many as 2,500 teen delegates from as far as Canada and California attend these conventions! Niles North’s Model UN invite those students to join who love to debate international issues, and would find several weekends of fun inspiring of learned debate skills, and well researched papers of politics. You can even act as an International reporter!

SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism)

The goal of SOAR is to create an inclusive and supportive environment open to all students who are interested in engaging in the school’s equity work.  SOAR will develop programs and educational opportunities in order to understand and educate on the system of oppression, institutional racism and effects of racism throughout society.  The sponsor will plan and host events during: Race and Identity Week, Black History Month, and Stand Against Racism.

STEP CLUB

Step Club is a club more focused in exploring the dance style called Stepping where you use your entire body as an instrument to create complex rhythms and sounds through spoken word, footsteps and hand claps. Originating from Africa and popularized by the National pan-Hellenic Council (African American Greek Lettered Fraternities and Sororities) the club offers any and all students to participate.

THEATRE FOR EQUITY

Theatre for Equity has regularly hosted events and meetings since 2016.  It is a student-inspired and -initiated organization that we would like to support and promote in a more official capacity.  The group discusses issues of representation and identity in the theatrical arts, and finds ways to support the theatrical, movement, and musical offerings of underrepresented artists in our community.  Examples of activities include: student-run discussion, informal play readings, conversation with local artists of color to connect our students with professionals who look like them, field trips to see area productions, and more.  The students have also begun to collaborate or invite participation from other student groups that focus on identity and perspective, such as BSU, MSAN, DREAM, LatinX, Fem Club, etc.

WORLD OCEANS SOCIETY 

This will be an ocean focused club based on the interest of the earth’s waters. Discussions on ocean life, marine biology, oceanography, exploration, sailing, fishing, and most importantly: conservation & sustainability / what we can do regarding the current climate crisis. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than there are fish. Billions of people rely on the oceans for food. And there is more known about outer space than the oceans.
