Engineering, Manufacturing, & Engineering Technology

The Engineering program is designed to prepare students for post-secondary engineering and engineering technology programs.

MakerStudio: (ETSM05)

Students will learn how to go from exploring various ideas, to sketching and designing, to fabricating! Throughout the semester students will learn to design using engineering design software and create physical models on 3D printers, vinyl printer/cutters, laser engravers/cutters, and other makerspace technology.

Length: 1 semesters
Credit: 1 credits
Open to Grades: 9-12
Grade Weight: General
Prerequisite: None

Introduction to Engineering Design: IED-PLTW: (ETYE03)

Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to identify and design solutions to a variety of real problems. They work both individually and in collaborative teams to develop and document design solutions using engineering notebooks and 3D modeling software. Are you ready to design the future?

Length: 2 semesters

Introduction to Engineering Design / Women in Engineering IED-PLTW: (ETYE03-W)

District 219 is proud to offer the Introduction to Engineering Design / Women in Engineering course. As you will see in the short video below, female students may feel intimidated to take STEM classes because of the heavy male enrollment, therefore we are excited to present this female only option. Students use a problem-solving model to improve existing products and invent new ones. They learn how to apply this model to solve problems in and out of the classroom. Using sophisticated three-dimensional modeling software, students communicate the details of the products. Emphasis is placed on analyzing potential solutions and communicating ideas to others. Students may receive college credit and/or advanced standing for successful completion of this course and a cumulative exam.

Length: 2 semesters
Credit: 2 credits
Open to Grades: 9-12
Grade Weight: Advanced Placement
Prerequisite: None

Additional Information: Dual Credit

Principles of Engineering POE-PLTW: (ETYE01)

Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.

Length: 2 semesters

Architecture / Civil Engineering / Construction

Civil Engineering & Architecture CEA-PLTW: (ETYE09)

Students learn important aspects of building and site design and development. They apply math, science, and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects and document their work using 3D architecture design software. Some students have seen these designs come to life through partnerships with local housing organizations.
