Niles North High School had two of the top Mathematical Modeling teams in the United States in the High School Mathematics Contest in Modeling (HiMCM), an annual national math modeling competition run by the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). Schools from the United States, as well as across the world, competed in November 2020, selecting one of two problems, and then had two weeks to construct, research, and communicate a mathematical model to solve the selected problem. Over 775 teams from around the world competed in HiMCM this year.
Team 11098 of Maddie Burroughs, Lisa Duan, Kalliope Kobotis, and Ana Vuckovic were named one of 56 Finalist Teams, placing them in the top 8% overall and one of the top 25 teams in the United States.
Team 10961 of Dominick Bogdan, Kyle Kenmotsu, Liam Perrault, and Hassam Uddin were named one of 94 Meritorious Teams, placing them in the top 20% overall and one of the top 50 teams in the United States.

Both Niles North teams were invited to participate in the second round of the competition, where teams from the U.S. construct, research, and communicate a mathematical model to solve the modeling problem for the International Mathematics Modeling Challenge (IMMC). This problem is not yet public, as the top two papers from the United States are selected to represent the United States in this international competition. Students are given 5 consecutive days to complete the challenge.
Niles North was one of only three schools in the United States to have multiple teams compete in this second round of this competition.
Team 10961 of Dominick Bogdan, Kyle Kenmotsu, Liam Perrault, and Hassam Uddin were named one of 4 Finalist Teams, placing them in the top 6 modeling teams in the United States.
Team 11098 of Maddie Burroughs, Lisa Duan, Kalliope Kobotis, and Ana Vuckovic were named one of 17 Successful Participant Teams, placing them in the top 25 modeling teams in the United States.

Maddie Burroughs, Lisa Duan, Kalliope Kobotis, and Ana Vuckovic were joined by Lindsey Saxe and competed as Team 15083 in the MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge (M3C) in March 2021, an annual math modeling competition run by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Teams from across the United States were given 14 hours to construct, research, and communicate a mathematical model for this problem. Over 530 teams from across the United States competed in M3C this year.
Team 15083 was one of 35 teams awarded an Honorable Mention Team Prize, which means they were awarded $1,000 to share as a team. Team 15083 finished in the top 10% overall of the competition, and was one of the top 50 teams in the United States.
