Forty-three students in Julie Lear’s Niles North Family and Consumer Sciences courses have earned the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 1 Credential and Dual Credit from Oakton Community College.
Gateways Credentials are symbols of professional achievement that show knowledge, skills and experience in caring and educating for children. Credentials are awarded and recognized by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Bureau of Child Care and Development. Some Circles of Quality in ExceleRate Illinois require Gateways Credentials and employers can use Credentials to help them in their hiring decisions.
High School students who achieve this credential have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois Gateways Scholarship Opportunity upon graduation. North students were fortunate to continue working toward the credential through remote learning.

The following Niles North Early Childhood Education Level 2 Students have successfully completed the course and will receive 3 college credits for Child Growth and Development ECE 102 at Oakton Community College.
