Skokie IL – The Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education has announced the appointment of Dr. Ignacio Lopez to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Rebecca Abraham in July, 2021. Dr. Lopez will serve the remainder of Ms. R. Abraham’s term, which expires in April 2023.
“It’s an honor to have been appointed to the Niles District 219 Board of Education,” said Dr. Lopez. “As a Niles North graduate (Class of ‘97) and now parent of two students in the district, I know the high quality education experience our teachers and district provide. I look forward to serving with such a committed group of talented leaders who are dedicated to the success of all our students and community.”
Dr. Lopez was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago and Skokie. Dr. Lopez is Dean of the Graduate School of Business at National Louis University in Chicago. He has been serving in the education profession for over 15 years. Dr. Lopez’s career in education includes positions as a high school English teacher, curriculum administrator, education professor, college dean and community college president. His leadership and research has focused on culturally responsive teaching and school community engagement. Dr. Lopez holds a Doctorate of Education degree in educational psychology and a Masters of Arts degree in teaching, both from National Louis University. He has received several awards for his work, authored Keeping it Real and Relevant: Building Authentic Relationships in Your Diverse Classrooms, and has served on several Boards, including the Board of Education for East Prairie School District 73 in Skokie, IL.
