EVENTS CELEBRATED
NILES WEST CELEBRATES OLYMPIAN AND WNBA STAR JEWELL LOYD (CLASS OF 2012) – NOVEMBER 4th, 2021
The Niles West community celebrated 2012 Alum Jewell Loyd on November 4th, 2021 at the Niles West Main gym. Niles West, District 219 and Lincolnwood are so proud of all that she has accomplished in such a short amount of time. Dubbed the Gold Golden Mamba by her muse, Kobe Bryant, Jewell and the American Olympic Basketball team took the gold in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Her WNBA Team, the Seattle Storm, has won 2 WNBA Championship Titles. Her Niles West Jersey Number #32 was officially retired on, which is a first in Niles West history. Thank you to Dr. Steven Isoye, April Stallworth, Dana Krilich, Senator Laura Fine, Representatives Denyse Wang Stoneback and Jen Gong-Gershowitz along with Melissa Isaacson (NW ’79 & author of State: A Team, A Triumph, A Transformation about the first ever women’s basketball team at Niles West), her past coaches & teammates, mentors, family members, dear friends, teachers, staff, and cheering Niles West students who helped make this day very special. We can’t wait to see what further strength and momentum Jewell brings to women’s sports!
